Välkommen till Brunsberg Konsthall 2026
Vi öppnar med tre utställningar av tre konstnärer i tre olika rom

1. I det stora glashuset kan ni se utställningen Kapsel/Capsule av den svenska konstnären Hertha Hanson (Karlstad/Göteborg). En samling av hennes abstrakta, gestiska målningar, bilder från flera år.
2. Installationen med titeln ”Point Nemo” finns på första våningen i det gula huset, i den tidigare frötorkningshallen, där Jonas Gazell (SE) visar sin flerdelade multimediainstallation.
3. I det tidigare laboratoriet, också på första våningen i huvudbyggnaden, kommer bilder av den hamburgske konstnären Axel Schäffler (Tyskland) att visas.
Vi gläder oss över att nu, förutom den stora hallen, även kunna fylla andra rum i den tidigare forskningsstationen med konst. Här är särskilt den stora skillnaden i ljusförhållanden av betydelse, vilket gör det möjligt för oss att visa Hertha Hansons ljusa målningar och Jonas Gazell multimediainstallation som snarare framträder i mörkret

Hertha Hanson – Kapsel
Målningar bygger en långsamt växande serie. I skrivande stund består den av 564 målningar.
De är skingrade för vinden; sålda, slängda och sparade.
Nu samlas några målningar här i ett rum av glas och ljus. De är daterade och signerade, men likt tidskapslar har de redan slutit sig. De rör sig längre och längre bort.

Jonas Gazell
är en multimediakonstnär verksam i Östra Ämtervik. Han arbetar med video, ljud och installation där teknologi, kropp och miljö möts i undersökningar av rumsliga och psykologiska landskap. Genom återbrukad teknik, rörelse och fragment utforskar han människans relation till samtidens tekniska och emotionella brus.
Jonas har tidigare ställt ut på bland annat Alma Löv Museum, Röda Sten Konsthall och Arvika Ljus.

Axel Schäffler bor och arbetar i Hamburg, Tyskland. Han studerade visuell kommunikation vid konsthögskolan i Hamburg och arbetar som målare och filmskapare.

Facing the nowadays problems of climate change and the human centered view of nature in all its connotations like monocultures of food production, empoisonment of soils, genetic manipulation of crops, etc.
Brunsberg Konsthall will mount a project, which is questioning the blurred line of what is the wild and the natural in a series of exhibitions and side programmes under the title:
The Botany of Desires*
The border between the natural and the artificial is blurred.
Let us try to change the perspective and start with the plants eye’s view on survival. On the most basic genetic level, plants want to make more copies of itself during its long way through evolution. Since a plant cannot move, the best way to do that is to induce animals – bees or people, no matter what – to spread their genes, by playing on the animal/ humans desires, conscious or not.
Might be that these evolutionary strategies were to figure out, how best feed, heal, clothe, intoxicate and be of use us, in order to make themselves some of nature’s greatest success stories?
After thousands of years of co-evolution the genes of plants are archives of informations which have undergone natural as well as artificial selection. Human needs have changed the plants as well as the plants have changed and manipulated human needs and desires.
After Darwin´s „The Origin of Species“ in co-evolution, every being is both a subject and an object.
The fact that plants are tied to their place allowed them to follow a fundamentally different path in evolution than humans. For example, they developed photosynthesis and perfected organic chemistry in order to defend themselves against unpleasant enemies using camouflage, poisons or bad smells or to attract useful creatures by meeting or satisfying their needs.
Even though plants have a much longer evolutionary history of survival than humans, they find in humanity a playing partner, “user” and “follower”, who is responsible for the distribution and cultivation as well as for the unimagined extent of todays destruction. The question for the artists interventions and works seems to be: “What is the nature of that game?*”

The Botany of Desires* #1 och #2* (* efter Michael Pollan´s bok (2002) med samma titel. “En växts öga över världen”, 2002)
belyser med hjälp av bildkonst aspekter av samutvecklingen mellan växter och mänsklig kultur. De medverkande konstnärerna bor i Sverige, Norge, (Tyskland och Frankerike, Botany of Desires #2: Vernissage 9. Augusti 2025 12:00)). I sina konstverk ägnar de sig åt växter som material, struktur, textur, färg, symbol och kulturell användning på olika sätt. Programmet syftar till att öka medvetenheten om hur den minskande biologiska mångfalden är kopplad till förlusten av mänskliga kulturtekniker.
The Botany of Desires** after Michael Pollan`s book (2002) with the same title “A Plants View on the World”, illuminates aspects of the co-evolution of plants and human culture with the means of visual art. The participating artists come from Sweden, Norway, (Germany and France, Botany of Desires #2, Vernissage 9. August 2025, 12:00). In their artworks, they take different approaches to plants as material, structure, texture, colour, symbol and cultural use. The programme aims to raise awareness of how dwindling biodiversity is linked to the loss of human cultural techniques.
The Botany of Desires* ( nach Michael Pollan´s Buch mit dem dem gleichen Titel, “ Die Welt aus der Sicht der Pflanzen“) #1 und #2, beleuchtet Aspekte der Koevolution von Pflanzen und menschlicher Kultur mit Mitteln der bildenden Kunst. Die teilnehmenden Künstlerinnen und Künstler kommen aus Schweden, Norwegen (Deutschland und Frankreich, Botanik der Wünsche #2, Vernissage 9. August 2025, 12:00 Uhr). In ihren Kunstwerken beschäftigen sie sich auf unterschiedliche Weise mit Pflanzen als Material, Struktur, Textur, Farbe, Symbol und kultureller Nutzung. Das Programm soll das Bewusstsein dafür schärfen, wie der Rückgang der Biodiversität mit dem Verlust menschlicher Kulturtechniken zusammenhängt.
